BASIC INTRODUCTION
RPG stands for 'role playing game'. In the game, you create your own character which begins at Level 1 and has a set of basic statistics which affect its performance in battle, such as hit points (HP), mana points (MP), strength (STR), defence (DEF), magic (MAG), magic defence (MAG DEF), speed (SPD), dexterity (DEX) and evasion (EVA).
Money
You start off with a small amount of money (called 'Gil'), but you may transfer your Wing Chun Dollars to 'Gil' using our item store. Money is earnt by completing quests, winning battles, selling items or components you have found, or from bank investments.
Experience and 'Levelling up'
Each time you win a battle or complete a quest, you will earn a certain amount of experience (EXP) depending upon the level of your opponent compared to your own level, or depending upon the difficulty of the quest. You have an EXP bar visible in the main world, and once the bar fills up, you go up a level. Each time you go up a level, you earn a certain number of
attribute points and
skill points.
Equipping Your Character
You may buy armour and weapons at stores around the world. Once you have bought a piece of armour or weapon, you must go to 'Equip Character' and place the item in possession of your character.
Please note that the attributes of the item will not be added to your own personal stats (shown next to your name in battle). If your character has 30 STR and the sword you are carrying has 70 STR, your stats will still show 30 STR. However when you attack with that sword, you will attack with a STR rating of 100.
On the other hand, some items have side effects that permanently affect your character's stats so long as you have that item equipped, even if you do not attack with it.
Attribute Points and Skill Points
You may use your attribute points to upgrade your character's strength, defence, magic, hit points, etc. Skill points are spent on different skills, such as alchemy, combat, arcane, etc.
Skills
Alchemy - Allows you to combine multiple potions into one.
Welding - Allows you to create custom weapons from individual components.
Arcane - Allows you to learn different magic spells, depending upon the level you have attained in the skill.
Combat - Allows you to learn different combat moves for use in battle.
Taming - Allows you to tame pets for use in battle.
Potions
Potions are used primarily to restore your HP and MP during battle. They may also be used outside battle, but it may be cheaper to stay at an Inn instead.
Components
Components are chemical elements or compounds (such as copper, iron and titanium) which may be earned by completing quests or dropped by defeated enemies. Different components have different properties and monetary values. Some are required to complete quests, while all compounds may be combined together (provided that you have sufficient welding skill) to create your own unique, custom weapons. Keep in mind that you also need the correct crafting tool in order to forge your own weapons. Finally, elements may be combined to make other compounds or to create other forms of the element (i.e. you can combine emerald chips to form solid emerald).
Magic
Magic may be learnt at certain shops around the world. The effect of spells is varied (some have multiple effects) and may be for the purpose of attacking, defending, or both. Each time you cast a spell, you expend a specified amount of MP and your experience in that particular spell increases. Like your own EXP, once you reach a certain amount of EXP in using a specific spell, the spell will go up a level. Going up a level can affect the usefulness of a spell; it may make it last more turns, it may make it stronger, it may make it require more MP to cast, or it may make it more accurate. The converse is also possible. Some spells can be used to nullify the effects of other spells.
Combat
You can attack with your fists if you are not carrying a weapon. The damage you inflict will be determined by your personal STR and your opponent's DEF. If you attack with a weapon, the overall STR will be your personal STR and the STR of the weapon combined.
You may learn special attack types which may temporarily affect your stats while attacking. For example, you might learn a risky move that will increase your STR but decrease your DEF and DEX for your turn.
Taming
Different pets may be purchased around the place. Your taming skill determines what types of pets you may own. These pets can learn attacks, spells, and have attributes just like your own character.
NEW FEATURES- A fully realised RPG world. You may travel from place to place using different methods of transportation. Places that are available to be travelled to must be discovered; you cannot automatically teleport to every place in the world.
- Team battles. You may fight in teams against other teams of players, or you may form a party and explore the world with other players. Additionally, monsters may team up against you - so watch out!
- No page refreshing. AJAX technology allows the battle elements to update automatically instead of refreshing the entire page.
- Realtime chat at each location in the map.
- Custom weapons. As described above.
- Pets. As described above.
- Improved 'Triple Triad' trading card game.
- Quests and bosses. Go on exciting quests to progress through the game. There are several bosses in the world which, once defeated, will be removed from the RPG world for all players.
- Unique item drops. Some bosses and enemies drop weapons and items which cannot be purchased in stores. You may like to use these weapons for yourself or auction them off to other players.
- Computer controlled characters who you may talk to or do chores for.
COMING IN FEBRUARY - MARCH It's taken quite a bit of effort to build up the RPG system. The software it uses does not come with any default settings, so all items, weapons, enemies, locations, etc. had to be customised from scratch. This will take a while, but it should be finished at the same time that the final release of the new RPG System comes out (which is in March). I am currently building the RPG System on an Alpha version of the software. Any suggestions will be welcome, especially from those who played the last RPG System we had here 1-2 years ago.
